Carbon Negative Impact Positive

// Sustainability

Responsible Removal is a core tenet of everything we do at Gigablue

To deliver marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) of the highest quality, we strive for complete sustainability across supply chains and operations.

This includes unequivocal no-harm-only-benefit interactions with the communities and ecosystems within which we operate.

// KNOWLEDGE

Extensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) processes keep us on target

To reduce emissions and environmental impact a minimum, we systematically identify and quantify Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions as well as auxiliary non-emission impact.

Through an extensive corporate accounting process we identified hotspots, set targets and set out to implement mitigation.

Everything is accounted for; from how our scientists get to the lab and the coffee they’re fueled on, to how our suppliers deliver micro nutrients and our deployment partners sail at sea.

Together with local communities and regulators, we scientifically assess and continuously monitor potential impacts to public health, economy, social structure and the environment.

Swift and decisive measures move the needle

// ACTION

  • A recent commute survey identified an opportunity for eco-friendly travel so we relocated our offices adjacent to a public train station.

  • Energy, water and other consumables are digitally tracked and metered by appropriate tools such as timers, motion detectors, flow regulators etc.

  • Waste reduction methods include validated recycling, composting and elimination of single use items.

  • We choose sustainable, transparent and compliant suppliers at every opportunity. For example, meal providers who utilize our own multi-use containers.

We take decisive action to mitigate carbon hotspots and avoid emissions with alternatives, creative supply chain management, and sometimes totally rethinking how we do things.

Engaged outreach with local communities ensures they share in the opportunities generated by mCDR via training, employment, education, infrastructure, and social funds.

// IMPACT

Making a difference that matters

We’re doing our part in advancing critical Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

// ACCOUNTABILITY

Total Transparency

Our methodologies tightly adhere to the ISO 14064-2:2019 standard as we complete the final stages of certification.

We follow ISO 14040:2006 & ISO 14044 for life cycle analysis (LCA), with carbon accounting according to ISO 14064 & 14067.

Additional environmental management standards are under review, and we will be filing our CDP disclosure by the end of 2024.
